Two men have been arrested after they were allegedly caught with loaded firearms inside the MCG during a blockbuster AFL game between Collingwood and Carlton.
Police alleged the guns were found hidden down the men’s pants while a crowd of 82,058 fans watched the Magpies defeat their arch-rivals on Thursday night.
“Police were called by security at the MCG to assist with two males refusing to leave the venue due to their behaviour,” Victoria police said.
“As a consequence, police have arrested two males and during a search it is alleged two firearms were located on each of these males.”
A 21-year-old Roxburgh Park man and a 27-year-old Broadmeadows man were in custody being interviewed, police said.
No one was injured during the incident, police said.
It was unclear how the men managed to take the alleged weapons past MCG security, which was upgraded last year.
In March 2024 the sporting venue announced it would be the first in the southern hemisphere to use new AI-powered full body weapon detectors.
The AI-powered screening uses cameras, sensors and AI to scan for prohibited items, before sending findings to security staff.
